Project Overview

The U.S. Navy needed to transition its maritime patrol reconnaissance aircraft from the venerable P-3 aircraft to the new P-8A. To support the integration of the P-8A, the Navy needed a 40,000 square foot expeditionary hangar at the Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain. The hangar was designed to provide a sheltered space with maintenance support spaces adapted to the harsh Persian Gulf environment.

To meet host nation requirements, the facility could not be a traditional permanent structure. The fabric hangar facility needed to be sustainable, quick to erect, and cost effective while still meeting the strict Military safety standards. The hangar had to accommodate all support facilities, including maintenance, administrative office, supply and equipment storage. The hangar featured a sand-resistant ventilation system, fire suppression system, a two-level internal mezzanine office / maintenance shop space and a three-leaf Megadoor Hangar Door system to allow aircraft entry/exit. We are proud to be a part of the US Navy’s efforts overseas.
